Bumper damage after a minor parking scrape, repair or full replacement

I got a decent scuff and a small crack on the rear bumper in a parking lot and I am not sure what to expect. How do you usually check that a shop handles this properly and does not just cover the damage with paint

From what I have seen, the main thing is whether the shop actually assesses the damage before deciding between repair and replacement, because a cracked bumper is not only a cosmetic issue. It is built to absorb impact, so if the structure is compromised, paint alone does not fix anything. I would ask directly about color matching, since a slightly off shade on a rear bumper is very visible in daylight. Pages like https://pro-collision.net/services/bumper-repair at least list what is included, such as dent and crack repair, OEM or insurance approved parts and restoring impact absorption, which gives you something concrete to compare against other quotes. I would also check turnaround time for front and rear work and whether they explain what happens if the damage turns out to be deeper than the initial estimate. Generally I prefer the option where the process is described clearly rather than the cheapest one.
