Community Guidelines
In our workspace, classroom, and online programs, we are committed to providing an inclusive and supportive environment for all writers. We believe that respect, creativity, and a shared passion for writing are necessary requirements for building a literary community. These community guidelines outline Left Margin LIT’s expectations for all of our participants, with the belief that these expectations will ensure a positive and productive learning experience for anyone who joins one of our programs or events.
1. General Conduct and Community Expectations
Our objective is to create a space that is free from harassment, discrimination, or any form of marginalization based on race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, socioeconomic status, religion, or age.
We expect all members of our community, including instructors, students, and staff, to:
-
Treat others with respect at all times.
-
Engage in constructive feedback and discussion that fosters growth, learning, and creativity.
-
Respect diverse perspectives, experiences, and identities, recognizing that everyone’s story matters.
-
Uphold a positive and inclusive environment by listening actively, providing encouragement to others, and practicing empathy.
-
Contribute to a collaborative atmosphere in which everyone is free to explore their creativity without judgment or fear.
2. Support
If any member of the community experiences or witnesses conduct inconsistent with our values, we encourage them to discuss it with their instructor, and/or report it to our director. All reports will be taken seriously and handled with confidentiality and care.
3. Use of AI in Writing
We are dedicated to promoting human creativity and the humanities in general. We do not condone the use of AI-generated content in our classes or programs, either by our faculty or students. The literary arts are a uniquely human endeavor that should come from individual thought, persistence, practical experience, and imagination. We are honored to practice and support this human art with our community.
