About

Dates: 4 Wednesdays, April 15-May 6 Time: 7-8:30pm (Pacific Coast Time) Format: In Person at Left Margin LIT Ages: Adult Class Description: This class is for writers, readers, and lovers of poetry. Through close reading, attention, and cooperative discussion, we’ll study four contemporary collections of poetry that have recently garnered critical attention: SOLUTIONS FOR THE PROBLEM OF BODIES IN SPACE, Catherine Barnett GREEN OF ALL HEADS, Aracelis Girmay FOUR IN HAND, Alicia Mountain LOOK, Solmaz Sharif We'll spend a week on each book, studying the poet's style, imagery, voice, and structure, among other craft elements. This is not a lecture class. (The instructor is not an expert on these particular poets or their work.) We will not read the books on our syllabus through a biographical, historical, or critical lens. Instead we’ll explore together the dynamic terrain of these texts with the hope of sparking awe and creative inspiration. During our four-week reading journey together, there will be many opportunities to create and share some poetry-writing prompts.
