About
Dates: 4 Wednesdays, May 13 - June 3 Time: 7-8:30pm (Pacific Coast Time) Format: In Person at Left Margin LIT Ages: Adult Class Description: This class is for writers, readers, and lovers of poetry. Through close reading, attention, and cooperative discussion, we’ll study four contemporary collections of poetry that are engaged, directly or indirectly, with the natural world: WINTER OF WORSHIP, Kayleb Rae Candrilli TWICE ALIVE, Forrest Gander WINTER RECIPES FROM THE COLLECTIVE, Louise Glück NATURE POEM, Tommy Pico We'll spend a week on each book, studying the poet's style, imagery, voice, and structure, among other craft elements. We’ll also explore the role of nature in the aesthetic and thematic architecture of each book, imagining how these contemporary works express desire to connect (or reconnect) with pastoral ideals. This is not a lecture class. (The instructor is not an expert on these particular poets or their work.) Participants will explore together the dynamic terrain of these texts with the hope of sparking awe and creative inspiration. During our four-week reading journey together, there will be many opportunities to create and share some poetry-writing prompts.
