Believable characters? Vivid scenes? Convincing conflicts and powerful plots? There’s a lot to a successful short story. In this workshop, we’ll look at stories by expert story builders, discuss the nuts and bolts of the craft of the short story, and then work on crafting our own. We’ll spend our time discussing structure, character, scene, and point of view (with exercises to help you practice these skills) and then turn our focus to your short stories.
Each student will have an opportunity to workshop a complete short story and receive detailed feedback from both their peers and the instructor. Come to class with a work-in-process or spend these weeks writing your next page turner.
