This course will offer the creative space to learn all about picture book writing. Classes will cover a range of craft topics including story arc, voice, and emotional resonance and will offer insight into industry standards and the submission process.

Every hands-on session will be an interactive, nurturing space. With many different picture book examples and plenty of time for Q&A, this course will support you as you brainstorm, draft, revise, and polish a full picture book manuscript.

*COVID Policies for in person classes at LML:

1. Masks are recommended but not required.

2. COVID vaccinations are required. (We are no longer asking for record of vaccination and will now operate on an honor's system.)

As an Indian American, Meera Sriram has lived equal parts of her life in both countries. Previously an electrical engineer, she now writes for children and advocates for diversifying bookshelves.

Meera is the author of several picture books including A Gift for Amma that received the 2021 South Asia Book Award, and Between Two Worlds, an American Library Association’s 2022 RISE: A Feminist Book Project selection. She believes in the transformative power of stories and likes to write about people, places, and experiences less visible in children’s literature.

Meera's forthcoming titles include A Garden in My Hands (Knopf/Penguin Random House) and Our World: India (Barefoot Books), both slated for release in Spring 2023. She lives with her husband and two teens in Berkeley, California.
