About
Laura Holson is an award-winning writer and former journalist for The New York Times, photographer, creativity advisor and teacher, and founder of The Box Sessions. She has chronicled the intersection of money and power in Hollywood and Silicon Valley for the Times for more than two decades, profiling people like George Clooney, Donald Trump Jr., Sean Parker, David Geffen, Marissa Mayer, Steven Spielberg, Tom Ford and Joy Reid. She has written about Brad Pitt and movie making for Vanity Fair and new age gurus for Town & Country.
Laura has appeared on ABC’s Nightline, CBS News, and CNN and is a frequent guest on radio shows and podcasts. She was awarded a National Magazine Award for public service reporting. Nearly a decade ago, Laura started a creativity salon that became the foundation for The Box Sessions, which brings together film makers, musicians, writers, storytellers, and artists. Arts and ideas have infused every aspect of Laura’s education. She has taught creativity at the Modern Elder Academy in Baja California. Laura was awarded a Knight-Wallace Fellowship where she studied filmmaking and voiceover at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. In April 2025, she was a writer-in-residence at Galerie Huit in Arles, France. She currently lives in Northern California.
