About
Date: Saturday, January 10 Time: 10am-3pm (w/1-hour lunch break) (Pacific Coast Time) Format: In Person at Left Margin LIT Ages: Adult Class Description: As poet Faiz Ahmad Faiz writes, "The true subject of poetry is the loss of the beloved." This class will dive into various poems that emerge from different kinds of loss, as well as address the many beloveds that can be lost. The session is a generative space to explore themes of loss, personal and communal grief, and the pains and pleasures of "re-membering" the gone. We will do this by reading and discussing modern and contemporary poems, examining poetic strategies and craft elements, and writing into prompts emerging from these poems. We will read works by Lucille Clifton, Victoria Chang, Mary Jo Bang, and Li-Young Lee, among others, and focus a large portion of our time creating new work so that all participants have drafts that they can continue working on at home. There will also be room for sharing and peer feedback. This class is great for all levels of writers who seek to find new ways to write into loss and to rediscover a sense of joy while reimagining our beloveds on the page. LEFT MARGIN LIT'S CANCELLATION/REFUND POLICY: If you find that you can't take a class for which you registered, you may request a refund, less a $25 administrative fee, at least 48 hours prior to the start of the first class session. After that threshold, refunds are not possible. If a class doesn't reach its minimum enrollment, it will be cancelled, and all students will receive full refunds.
