Date: Saturday, September 12 Time: 10am-1pm (Pacific Coast Time) Format: In Person at Left Margin LIT Ages: Adult Class Description: “What was the original sound of your voice,” writes composer Pauline Oliveros, “before you learned to sound the way you sound now?" Taking our cue from Oliveros’ collective listening practice, this single-session workshop will be an exercise in deep listening—both to self and other—in the context of creative community. Together, we will reflect on the makers and mentors who shaped us in the earliest stages of our creative lives. Through close reading, discussion, and guided writing exercises, we will reconnect with the impulses that first drew us to the page. What is it we make, and why? Who or what first introduced us to these practices? Drawing on the work of Dorianne Laux, Leila Chatti, Mai Der Vang, and Brynn Saito, we will explore what it means to revisit sites of memory that can reground our creative practice in powerful ways. LEFT MARGIN LIT'S CANCELLATION/REFUND POLICY: If you find that you can't take a class for which you registered, you may request a refund, less a $25 administrative fee, at least 48 hours prior to the start of the first class session. After that threshold, refunds are not possible. If a class doesn't reach its minimum enrollment, it will be cancelled, and all students will receive full refunds.
