Dates: Tuesdays, October 6 - 13 Time: 7-9pm (Pacific Coast Time) Format: In Person at Left Margin LIT Ages: Adult Class Description: In this two-week course, we'll read WE THE ANIMALS by Justin Torres and discuss it from a craft perspective. We'll consider diction, character, setting, point of view, mood, tension, structure, and dialogue. The goal is to approach the text as readers with a writing practice. In the first hour of both classes, we will function as a book club with an eye towards the techniques Torres uses in his writing. In the second hour of each class, we'll complete a series of timed writing exercises inspired by some element of what we've read. Though this is not a flash fiction course, we will focus on the ways that brevity can contribute to the clarity and urgency of fiction. LEFT MARGIN LIT'S CANCELLATION/REFUND POLICY: If you find that you can't take a class for which you registered, you may request a refund, less a $25 administrative fee, at least 48 hours prior to the start of the first class session. After that threshold, refunds are not possible. If a class doesn't reach its minimum enrollment, it will be cancelled, and all students will receive full refunds.
