How Memories Become Memoirs

About

Date: Saturday, July 25 Time: 10am-3pm (with one-hour lunch break) (Pacific Coast Time) Format: In Person at Left Margin LIT Ages: Adult Class Description: Have you ever wanted to turn your memories into a memoir? What has stopped you? Are you worried your memories are too vague or ordinary, too upsetting or controversial? Do you think you don't have enough discipline or craft? Are you afraid no one will care? Whether you've tried writing memoir before or not, this one-day class will help demystify and give value to the process. To release your voice, we'll learn techniques from a wide range of memoirists such as Jo Ann Beard, Javier Zamora, Maxine Hong Kingston, and Kiese Laymon. You'll learn to establish point of view, create patterns and plots, and explore themes. You'll have time in class to apply what you learn, share your writing, and ask questions. By the end of the day, you will have gained enough tools to keep writing on your own, giving shape and meaning to your life. LEFT MARGIN LIT'S CANCELLATION/REFUND POLICY: If you find that you can't take a class for which you registered, you may request a refund, less a $25 administrative fee, at least 48 hours prior to the start of the first class session. After that threshold, refunds are not possible. If a class doesn't reach its minimum enrollment, it will be cancelled, and all students will receive full refunds.
