About
Dates: Tuesdays, September 8 - 29 Time: 6:30-8:30pm (Pacific Coast Time) Format: In Person at Left Margin LIT Ages: Adult Class Description: Fiction relies on subtle but powerful scenes when a character “stumbles into a moment of clarity.” Whether you call it a shift, a reversal, or an epiphany, the change is crucial to the story’s meaning, yet difficult to render. In this 4-week course, we will examine the character transformation through the lens of a story’s climax: How do we convey the profound internal change through words and images? How do we bring a recognition alive on the page? Alternating writing prompts with discussion of work by Jamel Brinkley, Sarah Braunstein, and others, we will practice writing complex protagonists and connect their transformation to the story’s arc. Participants will leave this class with stronger grasp of craft techniques as well as a portfolio of new work. LEFT MARGIN LIT'S CANCELLATION/REFUND POLICY: If you find that you can't take a class for which you registered, you may request a refund, less a $25 administrative fee, at least 48 hours prior to the start of the first class session. After that threshold, refunds are not possible. If a class doesn't reach its minimum enrollment, it will be cancelled, and all students will receive full refunds.
