Creative Curiosity: A Workshop for Generating and Revising Vibrant Fiction
Dates: 6 Tuesdays, September 27 - November 1
Time: 6 - 8 pm
Instructor: Kathleen J. Woods
Are you feeling stuck, stalled, and drained of ideas? Whether you’re staring down the blank page or wrestling with a story-in-progress, this generative fiction workshop can help you approach writing and revision with creative curiosity.
Together we will explore readings and writing exercises designed to shake away perfectionist pressure and bring character, setting, and other elements of craft to life. And, we will practice engaging tools for drawing inspiration from beloved writers, other art forms, and your own work.
Each week, guided by a new prompt, students will share roughly 1000 words for peer feedback and workshop. Submissions can be completely fresh fragments, dazzling flash fiction, or even experiments with a novel-in-progress. Whatever serves your writing most! Each student will receive weekly written feedback and one in-class workshop discussion.
Kathleen J. Woods is the author of the novel White Wedding, published by Fiction Collective 2. She earned an M.F.A in Creative Writing from the University of Colorado at Boulder and was a 2018 Writers Grotto Fellow.
