In a dynamic and supportive online community, students in this course will explore the natural world through writing, whether poetry or prose. During class (conducted on the user-friendly online platform Zoom) we'll read and discuss brief excerpts of literary art, considering how the work uses the specificity and imagery of nature to create an effect on the reader. 

Each week will focus on a theme, for example: bodies of water or local plants. What are the images and sensory experiences that are particularly powerful to us and how can we use them in our own creative work? We will spend our time online together to read the prompt material, split into small groups to write, and finally to share our work with one another. We will also support one another's creative efforts with accountability and light critique.

As artists, we owe it to ourselves and to one another to show intelligent support during this crisis. Come with an open mind, a courageous heart, and a willingness to write freely.
