The Art of Storytelling: Fiction Workshop CANCELED

This workshop is designed to explore some of the most important elements of storytelling and fiction writing, such a character, conflict, point of view, narrative voice, setting, plot, and dialogue. 

We’ll also spend time writing in class, and every week we will work on brief take-home exercises to share when we meet during class.

 

Every student will also have the opportunity to submit up to ten pages or so of fiction (2500 words) for group discussion during the second and sixth class meetings. These pages can be a story, part of a story, or part of a novel.

Angela Pneuman is the author of the novel Lay It on My Heart and the short story collection Home Remedies. Her work has appeared in Best American Short Stories (2004, 2012), Ploughshares, Virginia Quarterly ReviewNew England Review, Glimmer Train, and other literary magazines, and she is a contributor to The Believer, Salon, and The Rumpus. She currently teaches in Continuing Studies and the Online Writing Certificate program at Stanford, where she was a Wallace Stegner Fellow, and is the executive director of the Napa Valley Writers’ Conference.
